School'd VCE fashion show

Had such an exciting night last night, it was the first time I have ever showcased any of my designs. Fashion design is one of my chosen VCE subjects this year and last night all the fashion students were lucky enough to have their own made and designed garments presented and modeled to 2 large crowds. Little did we know, there were fashion experts, professionals and several emerging designers in the crowd judging out designs. Soon we will find out who had one the few particular prizes which sound amazing!

For semerster 1 of this year we had a brief to design an outfit made of recyclable materials. I chose to make shorts, a bustier and a neck and shoulder pad piece out of various items from Clark rubber such as seatbelts, vinyl, swimming pool non-slip maps and metallic rope. My second garment had a brief of 'a decade in history' where I chose the Seventies. I designed a scrunched, laid back turtle neck, semi-racerback sleeveless top and matching high waisted shorts.

It was a thrilling night and got a great insight to if I do eventually get to have my very own fashion show, what it would be like.

Purely coconut yogurt

What better morning refreshment to have on a hot summer's morning. This coconut yogurt is purely made from coconuts meaning all natural and dairy free! Getting the kernels from the pomegranate out was the most difficult and messy job although in the end it was all fulfilling and so worth it. The vivid colours of the fruits against the off white yogurt is such a happy looking combination. Perfect start to the day!

Home sewn

Step to the side Spotlight because Fabricado is my new favourite fabric store. I think it may also be in line with The Fabric Shop on Brunswick St, Fitzroy I hastily went to last week. So anyway, this Fabricado place in a side street (Bond St) off the heart of Chapel St. It’s deficient in a few metre-squares of floor space rather than spacious but I’m thinking that’s what makes their materials look so much more exclusive.
So I came out with two smallish portions of plush silk fabrics - A canary yellow and a bage/golden colour. They had definition to them and were quite an intricate silk. I've been wanting to get into sewing my personal clothing for a while now so I set out to sew something simple but turns out I chose the most difficult fabric to handle. Why do I always set my aims too high? Next step in operation: Called Judith to the rescue, she's more than experienced with sewing and she taught me a few tricks and tips! End result: This yellow short circle skirt with an elastic band. I either wear it with a smart top and heels or simply Havianas and a tee.
Next aim: a maxi dress evolved from the golden silk - wish me extensive luck!
